Girls Hit By Van in Gaithersburg

Gaithersburg police officers are investigating an accident where a vehicle hit two juvenile pedestrians, ages 12 and 13.

The accident happened shortly before 7 p.m. on Feb. 10 in the 600 block of North Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg.

According to the preliminary investigation, police said the girls were crossing the intersection in a crosswalk against the pedestrian signal when they were hit by a van.

Scott Graham, assistant chief for Montgomery County Fire & Rescue, said the girls were transported to a pediatric trauma center as a priority one patient and a priority two patient with serious but not life threatening injuries.

While the accident investigation was underway, police closed North Frederick Avenue between Route 124 and Odendhal Avenue. The road reopened shortly after 10:30 p.m.

Police said the accident remains under investigation.
