“Valentine’s Day is the biggest floral holiday of the year. I don’t know if business triples, but it just becomes insane,” said the shop’s owner, Kim Kelly. “Anyone who sends flowers sends them on Valentine’s Day. We’ll go through over a thousand roses.”
Kelly has prepared for the holiday with the previous owner, but this will be her first holiday on her own. She’s quite excited for it.
Kentlands Flowers and Bows can offer different qualities than a major floral delivery service, Kelly said.
“Every stem that we put in designs is hand-picked, and we take care of them very well,” she explained. “All of our designs are custom and are original designs. We’re very proud of what we do here.”
Roses are the most popular flower on Valentine’s Day, which is shown in the cost.
“The cost for a stem doubles in cost from about $3.50 per stem to between $6 or $7 a stem,” said Kelly.
Kentlands Flowers and Bows is preparing 10 different designs for Valentine’s Day and is joining forces with other small businesses to maximize success for the holiday.”
“We’ve partnered with Spagnola for a flower and chocolate package called Match Made in Heaven,” said Kelly. “It’s nice to work together [with other businesses] that you know and trust in the community that also have high quality products.”
While advance planning is always good, Kentlands Flowers and Bows will also be ready for those who aren’t quite so prepared.
“Valentine’s Day can be very last minute,” said Kelly. “We’ll have plenty of things made up for the day.”
