There is a new gym in town. Kentlands residents may have noticed that Bally Total Fitness, located across the street from the movie theatre, has recently been advertising LA Fitness using large photographs and an information tent. This Bally’s location, along with several other area Bally fitness centers, has been bought by LA Fitness.
The question as to whether the club will convert into an LA Fitness, close or remain a Bally Total Fitness remains unanswered. The manager at the Kentlands location declined to comment.
Kentlands isn’t the only place to find the LA Fitness logo. A new gym is set to open on Oct. 15, with a grand opening on Oct. 17, at 515 Quince Orchard Road in the space (and then some) that once housed Circuit City. To field questions about the new gym, as well as to sign up new members, LA Fitness has set up a preview center in a small retail unit across from the drive-thru Starbucks in Firstfield Shopping Center at 505 Quince Orchard Rd.
The two-level fitness club is slated to include such amenities as a personal training, swimming pool, sauna, basketball and racquetball courts, a large weight machine room, free-weight room, cardio room, and an impressive array of group fitness classes.
William Joyner, general manger of the new LA Fitness club, declined an interview with The Town Courier.
For now, area residents will have to wait to see if the two gyms can both survive as options for those who desire more than their clubhouse fitness room has to offer.
