Frederick County Sheriff Chuck Jenkins will run unopposed in the Primary Election now that his opponent, fellow Republican candidate Karl Bickel, has decided not to run.

Bickel of Monrovia said he felt a run was no longer warranted because of the lack of signatures that he had mustered for his campaign.

Jenkins was first elected to his post in 2006, and no Democratic candidate has decided to face him in the November General Election.

“It would come as a big surprise to me, and I would highly doubt it if somebody opposed me in a write-in campaign,” Jenkins said.

With the 287g program on his mind, Urbana’s Farrell Keough, grateful for all that Jenkins has done, not only for Urbana but for the entire state of Maryland, thinks the county will benefit from his return to office.

“I think it is great that he is running unopposed,” said Keough. “He has done a lot for us at the national, state and local levels.”
