This year’s Frederick County 2010 Primary Election is slated for Tuesday, September 14, and there’s good news for those eager to vote before the mid-September election. For the first time, Frederick County is hosting “Early Voting” from September 3 through September 9 for all registered voters.
This new voting process was enacted after voter approval in 2008 of a constitutional amendment supporting it in the state of Maryland beginning with this year’s elections.
The “Early Voting” Center is being held in the Frederick County Department of Aging’s Senior Center at 1440 Taney Avenue in Frederick.
The Center is open for “Early Voting” each day from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. “Early Voting” will only be interrupted on Sunday, September 5, when the Center is closed, but it will resume on Labor Day, September 6.
The process for “Early Voting” is the same for voters as it is on Election Day.
The Primary Election will begin at 7 a.m. and run until the polls close at 8 p.m. Those residents registered Republican will vote for Republican candidates, while those registered Democrat will vote for Democratic candidates only.
“Independents can vote, too, in the election even if they are not registered with either party,” said Frederick County elections’ director Stuart Harvey. “They can vote for one of the 16 candidates running for the Board of Education (BOE).”
BOE candidates are not affiliated with a political party.
“We really would like to reach the 27,000 voters not registered with either party to come out and vote in the primary,” said Harvey.
The registration deadline to vote in the primary was August 24.
“However, you can still vote in the General Election in November,” urged Harvey.
Unregistered voters should fill out a voter registration form by Tuesday, October 12.
