Weight Watchers

Frederick resident Lucy Moneypenny celebrated her success with Weight Watchers in May. Since joining the program in 2006, Moneypenny has lost 80 pounds. Her mentor and local Weight Watchers leader, Diana McCarthy, awarded Moneypenny with the Weight Watcher’s Lifetime Achievement Award, plus a complimentary makeover at the Thomas Scott Salon, in Frederick.

Moneypenny moved to Frederick in 2006 with her husband and young twins and wanted to make some major changes in her life.

“I wanted to feel better about myself, be healthier and recover my self-confidence,” Moneypenny said. “I needed a job, but I felt nobody would hire me at that weight.”

Moneypenny met McCarthy at a local Weight Watchers meeting and knew she had found a mentor. “I found support right away and felt part of the group,” Moneypenny said. “Diana helped me change my lifestyle and was there for me anytime I needed help or inspiration.”

One of the best things about her achievement, Moneypenny said, was being able to be more involved with her children, who are now 13 years old. “Now I can really play with my kids, instead of just watching them play.”

In May, Moneypenny was even invited to be an audience participant in a recent Dr Oz show program, “Transformation Nation Million Dollar You.”

Moneypenny now exercises five times a week and has recently started working for Weight Watchers, supporting others in their lifestyle changes.

“When I started with the Weight Watchers program, the only exercise I could do was water activities at the YMCA,” Moneypenny said, “Last Thanksgiving, I ran the Frederick Turkey Trot!”

Posh Bridal

In April, Posh Bridal opened in the shops on Worthington Boulevard in Urbana, across from Giant Food. According to owner Brandi Berkheimer, “Posh is a full-service boutique that features an exquisite collection of designer gowns to suit every price range.”

Berkeimer has worked in the bridal industry for more than five years and saw a need for a new bridal boutique in the Urbana/Frederick area.

“This area is quickly becoming the new up-and-coming place to live,” Berkheimer said. “The atmosphere at Posh Bridal is of a modern boutique that you would expect to find in Bethesda, only without the traffic and the Bethesda price tag.”

The bridal boutique is open every day except Tuesday and offers dresses and accessories for the bride and bridesmaids. The shop will soon offer dresses for bridal mothers as well. For more information, contact Posh Bridal at 301.810.5443, or www.poshbridalmd.com.
